Delicious Dairy

As the most important milk producing region of Scotland, home to a staggering 40% of Scotland’s dairy cows, it’s no surprise that some of Dumfries & Galloway’s most delicious locally produced food comes from milk. It’s the climate and geography that makes D&G such an amazing dairy producing region. Our warm, balmy climate grows rich, luscious grass which helps produce some of the creamiest, most delicious milk around.

Loch Arthur

With a cheese counter that positively encourages exploration, adventure and lingering, Loch Arthur’s knowledge of fine cheese, both as a producer and as a retailer, is without question. Awarded the prestigious title of Food Producer of the Year by BBC Radio 4 just a few years ago, Loch Arthur is an unmissable destination for anyone in search of artisan, fair trade, organic and ethically produced food and drink.

Galloway Farmhouse Cheese

It’s not just dairy cows we have in Dumfries & Galloway – we also have dairy sheep! Galloway Farmhouse Cheese are famous for their award winning ewe’s milk hard cheese made from the milk of their own flock of pure and crossbred Friesland sheep. The creamery also produces cheese made from goats and cows milk, and their farm shop ‘Ewe to You’ at Sorbie near Wigtown is the perfect place to try, buy and find out more.

Cream o’ Galloway

Producing award winning luxury dairy ice cream and now award winning cheese too, Cream o’ Galloway is an iconic D&G food producer who were confidently doing food tourism long before the food tourism trend set in! Cream o’ Galloway’s superb visitor centre’s daily food events take you on a journey behind the scenes of their fascinating organic farm and ice cream factory, while their action packed adventure playground gives you plenty of opportunity to burn those ice cream calories off!
