Sitting just off the A75 near Creetown behind the sweep of Wigtown Bay is a veritable treasure trove of locally caught succulent seafood and rich, flavoursome smoked foods including some of the finest smoked Scottish salmon you'll find anywhere.

Allan Watson fishes using sustainable methods in Wigown Bay for sea bass, grey mullet, flounder, skate, dover sole, plaice and mackerel, and he complements his own catch with that from other local fishing boats, supplying the Galloway Smokehouse shop, local hotels and restaurants and, very soon, a brand new cafe & restaurant adjoining the Smokehouse.

The fresh fish counter gives a fascinating insight into the local seafood of Dumfries & Galloway, and Allan and his team are happy to explain what makes their smoked salmon and other smoked produce so delicious.

What to see and do:

Treat yourself to a catch of local seafood at Galloway Smokehouse:

  • Find out about the locally caught seafood and ask what the staff would recommend as their catch of the day
  • Ask about the smoking process - if a member of staff is free they may take you on a quick tour of the smokehouse!
  • If you fish yourself, hand over your prized catch to be perfectly prepared and smoked for you to take home
