Wigtown Book Town & Food Festival

Annual food festival with talks and demonstrations, plus regular Kist events at Book Town festivals throughout the year.

Wigtown is Scotland's National Book Town, and for book lovers there is perhaps no better place to be. It's a place to immerse yourself in shelves and shelves of ideas, inspiration and insight, and it is a place to enjoy the good things in life, warm hospitality and great quality food and drink amongst them.

In addition to the weekly market, Wigtown boasts a thriving programme of events and festivals of which local food and drink regularly play a prominent role. The annual Book Festival in late September is the most high profile, and the Kist, which trades for the duration of the Festival, is a treasure trove of food, drink, art and crafts, much of it locally produced. The Kist also opens during the Book Town's Spring Festival in early May and in winter at the end of November.

One of the longest established events in Wigtown is the agricultural show, a celebration of Wigtownshire's agricultural heritage which, naturally, includes a prominent food and drink element to it.

More recently the new Wigtown & Bladnoch Food Festival has established itself as a celebration of artisan food and drink, incorporating a producers showcase alongside a fascinating programme of talks, events and inspirational demonstrations.
